As a charge to reorganize an 1970s house galley kitchen in a outside Pittsburgh, the design reclaim the kitchen as the social hub of the home through reorganizing the kitchen storage and equipment into two bars and a floating island with the cooking range. By resituating the range from the periphery of the prior galley kitchen, the center of activity and engangement is reestablished by counter seating on the opposite side. The palette of flat sawn oak patterns the plinth, floating the primary casework and dining table as figure in the space.
